The new Governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton, at the signing of an executive order to opt into [insert dramatic musical cue] Obamacare.
Dayton had promised to do this during his campaign.
But none of us knew he would do it in this manner.
The attached video is filled with shakycam and crying babies, but it is a raw look into what I can only hope will become the standard for our divisive political future.
The Governor spoke (never his strong suit) for a few minutes, and then turned the podium over to supporters AND opponents to his first major act.
So yeah, tl;dw: it was tear-filled stories and righteous indignation all mixed together in one big not-so-happy blender.
Lots of rhetoric, but all presented in the same forum. Kinda miraculous.
Our state government, ever since Jesse Ventura stopped bustin’ heads early in his term, has been the political equivalent of elementary school playground bickering. Both sides ignoring the other whilst shouting “LA LA LA,” fingers firmly stuck in their ears, while the Principal throws his hands in the air and says “Fuck it, I just won’t do shit.”
In a country where our first instinct is to automatically assume the other side is a bunch of fucking idiots for having opinions that are not our own, maybe the simple act of listening to those opinions could change a thing or two.
Then again, the dude who comes in at 16:10 is a total douchebag.
